Amal Clooney has met with President Nasheed

Amal Clooney, who is part of President Nasheed’s international team of lawyers, has met with the former President.

An Official from MDP said that Amal Clooney met with President Nasheed today from 3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. at the Maafushi Prison.

The official said that Hassan Latheef and Hisaan Hussain, who is also on President Nasheed’s defense team, took part in the meeting.

Another member on the former President’s defense team, Jared Genser is expected to arrive in the Maldives sometime tomorrow afternoon.

President Nasheed’s Office has said they would pursue all diplomatic and legal means to free the former President.

The Government has also decided to meet with President Nasheed’s international team of lawyers. And so representing the Government at the meeting would be the Attorney General, Mohamed Anil.

President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012 as the commander in chief, during his presidency.
