ACC alerted over award of 20-storey apartment building project to Amin Construction

Main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has submitted a case to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding the award of the project to construct the first 20-storey apartment complex in Malé, to Amin Construction Private Limited.

MDP in its complaint highlighted the lack of a bidding process in the award of the project to a particular company - a violation of the Public Finance Act.

ACC was unavailable for a comment at the time of publication.

The project was awarded to Amin Construction on Tuesday, 1 September 2015.

The agreement in this regard signed between Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and Amin Construction states that the construction of the building, to be located at the empty land in TV Koshi, adjacent to Rehendhi Koshi, shall be completed in three years.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Tuesday, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Muizzu said that the government will claim 20 percent of the building, and the remaining part will go to Amin Construction.

It will have 90 apartments, an underground parking area, and the two bottom floors will be dedicated for commercial purposes.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Managing Director of Amin Construction Abdulla Mohamed said that applications would be invited for the apartments upon completion of the design phase.

Many new factors have to be considered as this is the first building of its kind, and the design phase itself could longer than usual, Abdulla Mohamed said.
