High Court schedules Humaam verdict hearing for Monday

High Court has scheduled a hearing for Monday, 7 September 2015, to deliver its verdict on the appeal case filed by Hussain Humaam Ahmed regarding his conviction of the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.

The hearings have been concluded, and Sun Online has learned from a reliable source that the verdict will be delivered on Monday. The exact time is however unclear.

Presenting the final arguments at the final hearing on 16 August 2015, Humaam’s lawyer Abdulla Haseen said that Humaam confessed to the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali because he was threatened by the police.

Haseen argued that Humaam later denied the charge, and the denial should be considered valid.

He said that no one witnessed the murder and no evidence had been presented in court in this regard. He also noted that the State had also not been able to present any evidence to prove the crime beyond doubt.

Haseen added that the lower court’s verdict was ‘filled with doubt’ and according to Islamic principles, murder convictions are not valid as long as there are uncertainties.

The lower court found Humaam guilty of murder and sentenced him to death in January 2014.
