Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that rumours which defame its president and senior officials could weaken and create division within the party.
This came in a statement following a conversation in a Viber group for PPM Parliamentary Group Members, where some MPs had hinted that Gayoom obstructs President Abdulla Yameen’s efforts towards the country’s development.
“…If the people making these allegations are members and senior officials of PPM, it could weaken and cause division within the party,” read the statement.
The party expressed sadness over the lies circulating on social media including Viber aimed at defaming Gayoom and PPM leadership, and reminded that such rumours would encourage opposition groups in their efforts to weaken and create division within PPM.
“We urge and advise everyone to refrain from spreading any defamatory allegations against the president and leadership, through any media channel,” read the statement.
