MDP has said that the Government isn’t sharing information about national productivity because it is not developing.
Talking about MDP’s report “The Economic State of the Maldives”, a member of MDP’s Economic Committee, former MP, Ilyas Labeeb said that they faced difficulties when the report was being prepared because the Government has not publicized the relevant information. Ilyas said that the Government isn’t publicizing that information because productivity has not been high.
“There are no statistics publicized about national productivity. The way we see it, the Government isn’t publicizing it because productivity has not been high. Or there is something wrong in it.” Ilyas said.
He said that the economic state of the country is poor and the tourist occupancy has been low as the number of nights being spent has gone down as well. While awarding resort shares to it’s employees is one of the oaths of this government, there has been indication to it.
Member of MDP’s Economic Committee, Ibrahim Ameer said that while the state has gained seven billion in the first five months, the Government has spent 9.5 billion and by the end of the year the deficit would rise to eight percent.
Ameer raised concerns saying that the Government has raised the eight billion of Government spending for the T-Bill to 12 billion.
Noting that the Central Bank MMA has no freedom, Ameer said that MMA is being run as the Government wishes.
