MVR 36,000 robbed from store found buried

Police have found a large number of phone cards and money robbed from a store has been found hidden in the toilet and buried in the house.

Police said today that MVR 36,202 and a large number of phone cards were stolen from the shop in R. Maduvvari.

In a special operation following the robbery on Thursday night, Police found a sum of money and phone cards hidden in the toilet of one of the robber’s house. The second half of the loot was found buried in yard of the second robber’s house. Police said that they recovered the stolen money and phone cards within 18 hours from the robbery.

Police said that they arrested two local men of 20 and 24 years of age.

R. Meedhoo Magistrate Court has added ten days to the remand of the two people to keep them in custody at a location set by the Home Ministry to continue the investigation.

Police said that the 24-year-old arrested in the case has a record for drug related charges and sexual misconduct. And the 20-year-old has a record with the police for theft, drugs and insubordination.

The case is being investigated further by R. Meedhoo Police Station.
