FENAKA Corporation has said that they’ve sent a 400 kilo watt generator to improve the electricity service in R. Meedhoo.
They said that they are in the process of officially taking over the island’s powerhouse and they would officially be taking over on Tuesday.
And so an agreement is to be signed between FENAKA Corporation and the Meedhoo Council for the official handover.
“24 hour electricity has been guaranteed for the people of Meedhoo. FENAKA Corporation is conducting a lot of projects in the atoll as per the Government policy to provide sustainable basic services to the people in the atolls.” FENAKA Corporation said.
The decision to give the island powerhouse to FENAKA Corporation was made with an election in the island back in January in which 350 people voted for the decision while 17 voted against.
So far the Meedhoo island powerhouse was run by the Island Council.
The decision to handover the powerhouse to the Government was made after the people requested so since the powerhouse has been operating with financial difficulties and without the possibilities of repairs, parts of the island were losing power.
