Maldivians have begun departing to Saudi Arabia for the hajj pilgrimage.
The first group, consisting of 286 pilgrims under Hajj Corporation, departed on Mega Maldives at 11:45 a.m. today. This included ten officials of Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
An official of Islamic Ministry told Sun Online that an ‘advance team’ had already arrived in Saudi Arabia.
Hajj Corporation has organised the trip for 1,300 pilgrims this year.
Groups will depart until Tuesday, on direct flights to King Abdul Azeez International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The trip has also been organised for 235 people by Mina Hajj Group, and for 231 by Zaeema Hajj Group.
A total of 2,000 people will go for hajj from the Maldives this year.
