Police have conducted an operation using the sniffer dog squad “Faaragema”, and found drugs in Noonu Velidhoo.
Police said that several houses and crime hotspots in the island were searched on Wednesday and Thursday under this operation, which was launched following a request from Velidhoo Council.
Items confiscated include empty film canisters which had been used to store a substance believed to be drugs, equipment used for packing drugs, and a can and several packets containing a substance believed to be drugs.
The operation in Velidhoo is part of a larger operation focused on three regions in the country to fight drugs following requests from councils, which are carried out by island police stations, Internal Security Command, and Crime Investigation Command of the police.
