Attorney General, Mohamed Anil, who is currently in charge of the Gender Ministry, has said that the “Kudakudhinge Hiyaa” (orphanage) being built in Hulhumalé would be opened within the year and that flats would be awarded to disabled people next month.
Speaking at a press conference by the Social Council at the President’s Office todays,Anil said that the orphanage built in Hulhumalé has the capacity to house 40 children. But there are 115 children there now.
And so the construction of the orphanage that began last year would be completed by September and would be opened in October.
Attorney General Anil said that when the Hulhumalé orphanage opens, the children under 10 years currently at the Vilimalé orphanage would be moved to Hulhumalé. And that the children of 10 – 18 years would be at Vilimalé orphanage and that the place has the capacity to hold 139 children.
Regarding the awarding of flats from Hulhumalé to the disabled, Anil said that 15 flats from Hulhumalé would be awarded next month.
He said that the work has been delayed due to a lot of complaints and problems. And so new regulations have been set and 571 people are being assessed.
The Attorney General said that the new regulations on awarding flats to the disabled takes the type and the level of disability into account. And the families would also be reviewed on their income and if there is any other people in the family with a disability.
