People’s Majlis guideline has been amended so that all money-related bills can only be proposed by government.
The amendment proposed by Gemanafushi MP Jameel Usman was approved by General Purpose Committee last Monday, with the majority of members present voting in favor of it.
MP Gemanafushi proposed an addition to Article 71 of People’s Majlis guidelines. Whereas the article before only stated that all tax-related bills be proposed by government, the amended version now states that all tax-related bills as well as all bills related to any expenditure from state budget be proposed only by government.
If the amendment wins Majlis approval, it would mean that all bills being considered over by Majlis related to government expenditure – except for those proposed by government – would become void.
