Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that MVR 1.5 billion would be spent from state budget in 2015 on various harbor construction projects being carried out across the country.
Speaking in answer to a questioned posed by a MP during Wednesday’s People’s Majlis session, Minister Muizzu said that MVR 1.5 billion would be spent on harbor projects this year, and that construction of harbors would be carried out in 28 islands.
“Government is running harbor construction projects in a lot of islands. As such, MVR 1.5 billion will be spent from state budget on constructing harbors in islands this year. With a lot of harbor construction projects in the planning phase, construction work on harbors is being carried out 28 islands right now,” said Minister Muizzu.
He added that 19 harbor construction projects had been launched this year and that agreements to construct harbors in 12 more islands had been signed and were at various stages. And that construction work would start on many islands with Environmental Impact Assessment complete.
Minister Muizzu said that construction of harbors in 17 islands would be made available for tender this year.
