Maldives celebrates National Day at Expo Milano 2015

Maldives has celebrated National Day at the ongoing tourism exhibition, Expo Milano 2015, in Milan, Italy.

Expo Milano dedicates one day to each participating country, and 10 August 2015 was dedicated to Maldives.

The activities kicked off with a flag-hoisting ceremony, led by Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Abdulla Ziyath.

The activities also included a boduberu performance, dance performances, and cultural performances.

An MMPRC official said, “This will contribute to our efforts towards achieving the target of 1.4 million tourists, as well as help promote Maldives as an international destination.”

Milano Expo 2015 is held from 1 May to 31 October 2015.

Participants include 140 countries, and the exhibition is expected to receive 20 million visitors.

Earlier during his visit, Ziyath met with the Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015 to discuss ways of increasing Maldives tourism promotion.

Tourist arrivals in Maldives from Italy stood at 57,862 at the end of 2014. It increased by 12 percent in June 2015 compared to the corresponding period last year.
