Locals in Noonu Atoll Narudhoo woke up Sunday morning to see Narudhoo School gate padlocked shut, and Super Glue poured over locks in Narudhoo Council Office and Narudhoo Health Center.
Narudhoo Council President Abdulla Shafeeq informed Sun Online that the three establishments had been sealed shut when officials went to open them in the morning. And that the establishments were later opened with assistance from police.
He said that he did not know the exact reason the establishments had been sealed shut, but that locals had been expressing anger regarding the fast spread of flue in the island.
“Some had expressed concern over apparent priority given to decorating the island with lights to celebrate 50 years of independence rather than to the spread of dengue… Now I don’t know the exact reason for this,” said Shafeeq.
The three establishments that had been sealed shut have now been reopened for service.
