Sheikh Imran moved to prison again

President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran who is in Police custody charged with terrorism has been moved to prison from house arrest until the end of his trial.

Sheikh Imran was moved to house arrest yesterday.

Issuing the order from the Criminal Court, Judge Abdu Baaree Yousuf said that Sheikh Imran was moved back to prison from house arrest following an intelligence report from the Police.

When Sheikh Imran’s lawyers asked what the report said, the judge said that no information about the report can be shared since it’s a classified report.

The President of Adhaalath Party has been in Police custody for 64 days. He was arrested on 2 June.

State has accused Sheikh Imran of firing up the protesters participating in the “Against Oppression” protest held on May, 2015; which led to protesters to break free of the barricades set by police and injure police and damage private property.

Imran was charged in reference to 2 (a), under 6 (b) of Anti-Terrorism Act.

Anyone proven to have an act of terrorism that does not result in physical harm will be served with a 10 – 15 year jail sentence.
