Majlis approves 5 nominees to MIRA Board of Directors

People’s Majlis on Wednesday approved 5 nominees suggested by President Abdulla Yameen to be appointed to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) Board of Directors.

Those who won the approval of Majlis are:

• Ahmed Faiz Mohamed

• Hassan Waheed

• Aishath Asha Ali

• Faseeh Zahir

• Leena Mohamed Zahir Hussein

These 5 people won the approval of Majlis by securing the majority of votes.

President Yameen had presented 6 nominees for approval as MIRA board members. These 6 individuals were evaluated and interviewed during Committee on Independent Institutions meeting held on Tuesday.

Of those interviewed, 4 individuals’ secured over 75% marks - those being Ahmed Faiz Mohamed, Hassan Waheed, Faseeh Zahir and Aishath Asha Ali. Though Leena Mohamed Zahir Hussein won Majlis approval, she scored less that 75% marks on her evaluation.

Those currently in MIRA Board of Directors are; Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed, Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer, Chairperson Ahmed Mohamed, Deputy Chairperson Hassan Waheed, Director Aishath Loola Hassan, Director Hussain Siraj and Director Ahmed Faiz.
