President Maumoon puts a rest to the rumors about his disapproval of making Adheeb the Vice President

President of PPM and the former President of the Country, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that he has no objections to making the Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb the new Vice President and he has not raised any objects to President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.

Responding to a question from Sun Media regarding rumors covered by some of the news media in the country about sending a text message to President Yamin about President Maumoon’s objections to bring in the Tourism Minister Adheeb as the Vice President, President Maumoon said that those rumors are a lie.

“I didn’t text the President about who to bring or not to bring as the Vice President.” President Maumoon said in an interview to Sun Media today from Oman.

President Maumoon has previously said that the rumors about him forcing to bring a specific person as the Vice President are false. And he said that if the position of the Vice President becomes vacant, assigning a person to the position is a power reserved to the President.

Members of the PPM’s Parliamentary Group also told Sun Media that President Maumoon remains neutral in the matter.

“President Maumoon won’t object to anything that President Yamin wants.” An MP of PPM said.

Although there have been rumors about President Maumoon’s objections to some of the decisions made by the government, President Maumoon did not do it publicly.

Instead, he said that bringing changes to the cabinet is something every President has to do to run the country.

PPM’s Parliamentary Group has submitted a No Confidence motion against the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed to the Parliament and are on a campaign to bring the Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb the Vice President.

Regarding that campaign, the Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Media today that the President is not considering one particular person for the position of Vice President.

“Either removing the current Vice President from power or to bring in someone else as the Vice President, there is no role of the President in that. President Yamin is not taking part in any discussion like that either.” Muaz said.

Spokesperson Muaz said that the President won’t attempt to bring in anyone unless the position of the Vice President is vacant.
