Construction of Kelaa

The construction work of the sewage system in H.A. Kelaa has begun today.

The work was inaugurated at a special ceremony held at Kelaa by the Minister of Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, the Managing Director of the Malé Water and Sewage Company (MWSC), Fazul Rasheed and the MP for Kelaa constituency, Ali Areef with the State Minister of the Environment Ministry, Abdul Matheen Mohamed.

The people of Kelaa with a population of about 2500 people have been patiently wai0ting for the day a sewage system would be established in the island.

The Kelaa sewage system is a MVR 54 million project assigned to MWSC.

Speaking at the ceremony today, the Minister of Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim said that as the sewage system is being established, a training program on the sewage system would be conducted on the island.

The Minister said that aside from the sewage system, the construction of the island’s water system would also begin in a few days.

Managing Director of MWSC, Fazul said that 21 meters of pipe would be connected in the sewage project. And four pumps would be installed as well.

President of the Kelaa Council, Abdulla Infaaz said that today is a day that the people of Kelaa has been waiting for and advised the people not to do anything that would impede the progress of the project.

The government has given 18 months to complete the project.
