Dr Shaheem appointed as Vice Chancellor of Islamic University

Former Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University.

Dr Shaheem told Sun Online that the position was offered by President Abdulla Yameen yesterday, and that he accepted it today.

He said that he will begin work as the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University in about two days.

Dr Shaheem played a major role in the efforts by the government to establish an Islamic University.

For instance, he led the committee formed to put the preconditions in place for the compilation of the Islamic University Bill.

During his tenure as Islamic Minister, Dr Shaheem collaborated with Malaysia’s Islamic University to draw up a strategic plan for the university. He said today that he would do everything possible to develop the university as per the strategic plan.

The Chancellor of the Islamic University is Dr Zahir Hussain, who is also the Chancellor of the Maldives National University.
