Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has said that the list submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the government, requesting leniency, contains names of several serious criminals.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office today, Umar Naseer said that the government is presently verifying the list of about 1,400 names submitted by MDP.
The list contains names of people against whom investigations are ongoing regarding political events.
Umar Naseer said that the government would not file charges against people who commit minor offences during political events, and that the government would be lenient towards people who are accused only of “political crimes”.
Speaking at the press conference, MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the issues brought up by MDP, are related to political activities.
He said that three propositions made by MDP will be implemented by the government very soon.
