Turkish naval ship visits Maldives

Turkish Naval Ship TCG Gediz has arrived in the Maldives on a friendly visit.

A reception was held onboard the vessel on Tuesday night, which was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham, and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.

Speaking at the reception, Commanding Officer Yusuf Jamal said that TCG Gediz had visited 15 regions this year, and will be in Maldives until Saturday.

He said that upcoming stops include Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Dunya, in her speech at the reception, welcomed the Commanding Officer and his crew to the Maldives and highlighted the close historical ties of friendship between the Maldives and Turkey.
