Number of tourists visited in May increased by 4.5 percent

Compared to the month of May last year, the number of tourists visited the country this May has increased by 4.5 percent.

The number of tourists who visited the country in April was reduced by 2.9 percent.

Statistics publicized by the Tourism Ministry yesterday shows that 95,389 tourists visited the country in May 2015. The number of tourists visited the country in May last year was 91,296 tourists, which is a 4.5 percent increase.

Although the number of tourists from European countries was fewer in April, 35,403 tourists visited from Europe in May which is a 2.5 increase.

The highest number of tourists came to the Maldives from Asia in the month of May with 52,816 tourists. Hence, compared to May of last year, the number of tourists visited in May has gone up by 4.9 percent.

The number of Chinese tourists was the highest in May as well with 30,864 tourists. Making it a four percent increase compared to the May of last year.

By the end of May, a total of 527,599 tourists have visited the country so far making it a 1.8 percent increase compared to the year 2014.
