Moosa Manik has said that the Maldives does not have an opposition party

Vice President of the Parliament and the MP for the Hulhu-Henveiru constituency, Rico Moosa Manik has said that the Maldives no longer have an opposition political party and the government is doing things however they want.

Speaking at the debate process of the amendment to the Local Governance bill by the government, MP Moosa Manik said that although MPs speak representing opposition parties, when the government does things however they want, the parties are working to a side.

“Today there are no opposition parties. When it’s time to tear the constitution in half, both sides join in and do it. There is no need to say we (MDP members) are oppositions.” He said.

MP Moosa said that the parties are working with the government in the name of oppositions and things are now down as things happen when the “ace” card is played.

Speaking on the topic today, he said that bringing change to the constitution is not something that can be done easily. But an amendment to the constitution was made with President Yamin’s ability to create an environment to do that.
