Elections Commission has ordered the political parties to get the fingerprints for the membership forms submitted to the Commission.
An official from the Elections Commission told Sun Media today that the Commission has decided to collect the corresponding fingerprints to the membership forms submitted to the Commission. And so far DRP, MDP, JP and Adhaalath Party have been notified of the policy. And the other political parties are also going to be officially notified very soon.
“All the parties would be told to collect the fingerprints.” The official said.
The Election Commission has decided that all the membership forms submitted so far has to be resubmitted with the fingerprint before 31 December.
The Law of Political Parties say that Name, Address, ID Card Number, Age, Fingerprint and the date of signing has to be on the membership forms. The law has been in effect since 2013.
PPM was formed after the law came into effect hence the party’s membership forms have the members fingerprints on them.
