Three parks to open in Mal

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has announced that three parks will be opened in Malé on 15 July.

Executive Coordinator of Housing Ministry Abdulla Shareef told Sun Online that parks are being developed at the harbour, carnival, and Friday Mosque grounds.

The projects are funded by the Housing Ministry.

Shareef said that in addition to the parks, water fountains will also be built at the Republic Square and the Friday Mosque park.

He added that the ministry has been handling municipal projects since they were handed over in December 2014, and that the inauguration of the parks is not related to any occasion.

Many parks in Malé have been taken over by gangs and become hotspots for anti-social behaviour. Shareef assured that this will change soon under the government’s project to make Malé greener and more family-friendly.
