A national campaign to control mosquitoes begin across the country

A national campaign to detect and clean mosquito infested areas in an effort to control the Dengue Fever spreading across the country has begun today.

Government companies are also taking part in the nation-wide campaign that started at 10 a.m. today. Houses and other places that have areas prone to mosquito infestations would be neutralized in this campaign. The program today would run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of this campaign today held on the land east of Dharubaaruge this morning, Chief Guest, the Minister of Housing, Dr. Mohamed Muiz said that this campaign started by the government to combat Dengue Fever can be a success by everyone working together. And the Minister advised all the citizens in Malé and the Atolls to work together in this campaign.

“Different institutes and Ministries are doing a lot to control mosquitoes. And the Housing Ministry has done a lot of work to clean Malé. Fogging of public places and parks would go for a week. And places that were missed before is being cleaned as well.” Minister Dr. Muiz said.

Dr. Muiz said that construction sites would be cleaned as one of the most important parts of the program. And the campaign would run for about a week in Malé and the atolls.

Health Minister, Iruthisham Adam also spoke at the ceremony saying that the campaign that starts today would be covering Malé, Hulhumalé and the all the islands.

“The purpose of this campaign is to detect and neutralize mosquito infestations at public places and houses. Checking for mosquito infestations and neutralizing such places is a responsibility of every, citizen, institute, company and club.

Under the campaign, the sites cleaned by the teams of institutes taking part in today’s cleaning would be supervised.

While there have been 475 reported cases of Dengue Fever, four people have died so far.
