Motion goes to parliament with enough signatures to remove the Vice President

Motion for a Vote of No Confidence has been submitted to the parliament with enough number of signatures to remove the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed from power.

The motion was submitted with 61 signatures by the MP for Baarah constituency, Ibrahim Sujaau.

The Constitution says that the vote of 2/3 of the Parliament is required to pass a No Confidence motion against the President or the Vice President being 57 votes.

MP Sujaau says that the target of the PPM’s Parliamentary Group is to assign the Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor as the Vice President on the day of the 50th Anniversary of Maldivian Independence on 26 July.

The Parliament has amended their regulations so that even if a No Confidence motion has been presented against the Vice President, they can move to a vote without the Vice President coming to a Parliament session to respond.

While the government MPs has presented a No Confidence motion against the Vice President Dr. Jameel, he is currently in London. There has been no response from the Vice President in regards to the motion.
