Cases of not fasting and sexual cases increased in Ramadan

Although the cases reported to the Police in the first ten days of Ramadan are 22 percent lower compared to the same period in the past years, the sexual cases and cases of breaking the fast without a valid reason has increased.

Statistics shows that 402 cases reported in the first ten days of Ramadan in the past year while only 315 were reported this year makes it 22 percent lower.

Even though the numbers of crimes reported are fewer, the number of sexual cases has risen by 167 percent. With only three sexual cases reported in the first ten days of Ramadan last year, the number has risen to eight this year. While three cases of breaking the fast without a valid reason was reported last year in the same time period, the number has gone up to six this year.

“Looking back at the crimes reported in the first ten days of Ramadan in the past year, the biggest difference is seen in the number of sexual cases reported to the Police. The number of sexual cases reported to the Police has increased by 167 percent.” Police said.

The number of domestic cases has increased by 20 percent. With five domestic cases were reported last year in the first ten days, six cases have been reported this year. The number of misappropriation cases has increased by 38 percent.

While 107 cases of theft were reported last year in the ten day time period, the number has gone down by 39 percent this year with only 65 reported cases.

And 62 traffic accidents were reported last year, the number of accidents reported this year was 54.

There were no cases of counterfeit or forgery reported to the Police in the first ten days of this Ramadan.

Police have managed to reduce the number of gang violence cases by 45 percent and robberies by 20 percent this year. And while cases of stolen goods have been reduced by 24 percent, drug related cases have been reduced by 20 percent in this time period.

Police said that the crime rate has been brought down by the hard work and preparation of the Police. And so they have reviewed high crime areas and the times and structured the Police work efficiently.
