MDP nominates Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for discussions with government

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has nominated its Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as its representative in the discussions with the government.

Yesterday, the government said that MDP had not officially informed its decision to participate in the discussions without former President Mohamed Nasheed.

MDP’s decision to appoint Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was announced on Twitter today.

The Twitter post by MDP Secretariat reads: “MDP has informed the government its decision to appoint PG Leader Ibrahim M. Solih as its representative in the discussions with the government.”

At a recent press conference, MDP Spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmy said that the party will submit three papers for discussion at the meetings with the government.

Topics covered by the papers include appointing an Indian mediator, releasing political leaders who have been arrested and charged following protests, and changing from presidential system to parliamentary system, MP Imthiyaz said during the press conference.

MDP’s decision to participate in the discussions came after Nasheed said that he did not wish stand in the way of the opportunity given to MDP by the government to engage in dialogue.
