No.1 Goalkeeper of the Maldivian National Football team, Imram Mohamed has been assigned as the Anti-drug ambassador.
National Drug Agency (NDA) said that Imran was assigned as the ambassador for three years.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony as an ambassador, Imran said that taking part in such a thing in a social capacity is something he wants to do and he would do everything he can against the drugs to the best of his ability.
“Every Maldivian knows that there is a lot to be done in this. This is big curse on us.” Imran said.
Imran said that with his ambassadorship, he would have to do more than what he was doing now and that he would discuss with the board of NDA about doing everything he can to keep the youth from drugs.
NDA said that assigning and Anti-drug ambassador is something that is being done in all the countries. And using famous people in something that have always being done in different countries. The people chosen as ambassadors are people that young people look up to and because of them, hope that they would step away from drugs, says NDA.
According to NDA, Imran was given the ambassadorship after careful consideration and with great hope and that he is someone widely accepted in the community and has been working against drugs.
This is the first time an Anti-drug ambassador has been assigned in the Maldives. In the future, Imran would be the face of all anti-drug campaigns.
NDA has requested using purple ribbons for a week starting Friday to celebrate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
