Three-line whip by JP to pass the amendment

Jumhooree Party (JP) is putting out a three-line whip in tonight’s JP meeting to pass the amendment to reduce the age of candidates to the Presidency and Vice Presidency to 30 – 65 years of age.

Hussain Shahudhee of the JP Parliamentary Group told Sun Media tonight that the party decided to put out a three-line whip at the meeting tonight.

“We decided on a three-line whip on tomorrow’s amendment to the constitution.” Shahudhee said.

While JP is putting out a three-line whip, the Leader of the Party, Qasim Ibrahim has “begged” to their MPs to vote for the amendment tomorrow.

If the JP’s 11 MPs vote for the amendment with the PPM/MDA members tomorrow, the total votes would go up to 60. But since Qasim Ibrahim is out of the country, he would be excluded from the vote making it 59. And so the government needs five more votes.
