MDP puts out a three-line whip to support the amendment

MDP has put out a three-line whip as well supporting the amendment to reduce the age of candidates to the Presidency and Vice Presidency to 30 – 65 years of age.

MDP Spokesperson and the MP for the North Maafannu constituency, Inthiyaaz Fahumee told Sun Media tonight that the decision to put out a three-line whip supporting the bill was decided by the unanimous decision of the members present at the MDP Parliamentary Group meeting tonight.

The decision was made after about 90 minutes of debate among the memebers.

Jumhooree Party (JP) has also decided on a three-line whip supporting the amendment to reduce the candidacy age for Presidency and Vice Presidency.

If MDP and JP votes for the amendment with the governing PPM/MDA coalition, the amendment would pass with 81 votes. Parliament requires 3/4 of the whole parliament to pass a bill. This is the vote of 64 members of the 85 members of Parliament.

Members in the Parliament per political Party:

- PPM: 44 members

- MDP: 21 members

- JP: 11 members

- MDA: 5 members

- Adhaalath: 1 member

- And three independent members
