President Nasheed has been told his sentence cannot be lightened without completing the appeal process

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has told the former President, Mohamed Nasheed that his sentence cannot be lightened without completing the appeal process.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Media today that President Nasheed sent a letter addressed to President Yamin from Maafushi Prison.

The Spokesperson said that President Nasheed asked President Yamin to reduce his 13 year sentence. And President Yamin has asked the former President to complete his appeal process in his response according to Spokesperson Muaz.

“In response to President Nasheed’s letter from the Maafushi Prison, President Yamin asked to complete the appeal process.” Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Muaz said.

President Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison for ordering the unlawful arrest of the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Abdulla Mohamed as the Commander in Chief and President of the country.
