Fire starts at Kaaminee Shopping Complex

A fire has started on the second floor of the Kaaminee Shopping Complex on Majeedhee Magu.

Information Officer of MNDF, Major Adnaan Mohamed told Sun Media that the fire started on the second floor of Kaaminee Shopping Complex in front of Delight shop on Majeedhee Magu and it is unclear where the place has occupants or if it is part of the shop.

“Our firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire now. It is unclear so far as to what started the fire. We will update the media as information comes in.” Major Adnaan said.

Journalist of Sangu, Adamn Nazeer in the area said that the fire is burning fast and the MNDF and the Police are putting in a combined effort to control it.

Sun journalists on scene say that the fire has been controlled considerably but there is a heavy presence of smoke.

Major Adnaan said, “80 percent of the fire has been controlled now. But it is unclear about the extent of the damage to the building and cannot confirm if anyone was hurt in the fire.”

After speaking to the Owner of the shop, Abdulla Ali Didi, the Deputy Editor of Sun, Hussain Hassan at the scene said that the fire started at the storage of the two shops at the Shopping Complex; one of them being a warehouse for clothing and the other one for shoes.

“The fire started at the warehouse of the shoes and clothing store on the ground floor here. The damage can be estimated after taking a look inside. The shop is not insured either.” The Owner of the shop said.

The website of MNDF says that the fire at Ma. Kaaminee ge has been extinguished. And the MNDF Fire and Rescue Services was active immediately when the fire was reported at 10:40 p.m. tonight. And so the firemen of FRS arrived on scene and controlled the fire completely around 11:20 p.m. It also says that no one was injured in the fire.

MNDF’s Fire and Rescue Services and the Maldives Police Services are now investigating the cause of the fire.
