A kilo of watermelon for MVR 20!

A kilo of the Ramadan favourite, watermelons are between MVR 20 – 25 at the market.

With the holy month of Ramadan starting tomorrow, the prices have soared. Two days ago, a kilo of watermelons costs MVR 15 at the market. Today, it is for an average of MVR 25.

While the price of watermelons has risen, the prices of other fruits used to make juices are also being lifted. While the price of a mango is for MVR 25, young coconuts are also being sold for the same price.

As the year’s Ramadan begins, the Maldivian agriculture has been suffering. The agriculture in G.Dh. Fiori, A.A. Thoddoo, G.Dh. Vaadhoo and of the Laamu atoll has suffered at the hands of the weather.
