A special team from the Maldives Police Service has left for Addu City to investigate a murder of a young man with a sharp object.
Police Media Official told Sun Media that a special investigation team from the Serious and Organized Crime Department has left for Addu City tonight.
The young man who died at Hithadhoo Hospital following an attack with a sharp object by masked men was 19-year-old Hussain Shiyaar. He sustained serious injuries to his head and suffered multiple cuts on his body.
With the 19-year-old’s death, the number of people who has been killed this year has gone up to seven. The first reported murder this year was the murder of the two-year-old Mohamed Ibthihaal who was found on 28 January.
The second person murdered this year was Jailam Ahmed Shakir on 21 February.
On 21 March, Ali Ziyadham was murdered in L. Mundoo in an attack with a sharp object over a bottle of alcohol. The following day, Shaahin Miya, a Bangladeshi national working at a café at the South West harbor in Malé City was murdered by a group of masked men.
The fifth murder of the year took place outside Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital where Noor Adam Hassanfulhu was murdered with a sharp object on the night of 28 March. And on 11 June, a foreigner was found dead multiple wounds at L. Gan.
