Thirteen charged for assault on police officer

The State has filed charges against 13 suspects in relation to the assault on a police officer during the mass protest in Malé on 1 May 2015.

Three were charged with assault using a weapon, and the remaining ten with assault without a weapon.

The suspects are Ahmed Unais, 33; Ibrahim Rasheed, 23; Ibrahim Ibad, 28; Mohamed Sinaan, 32; Laushan Ahmed Zahir, 21; Nasira Ali, 30; Ahmed Ibrahim, 48; Ibrahim Laban Shareef, 19; Moosa Sharmeel, 35; Farhath Ali, 52; Abdulla Rasheed Mohamed, 48; Ali Rasheed, 51; and Umar Gahir, 23.

Spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office Ahmed Hisham Wajeeh told Sun Online that investigations are ongoing against two more suspects.
