Attorney General: Elections Act requires revision

Attorney General (AG) Mohamed Anil has said that the Elections Act is incomplete, and requires revision.

Anil made this remark while speaking at a ceremony at Customs Building this morning, to launch the new website of the Elections Commission.

“We noted several problems with the law during recent elections. Elections Commission has held discussions with relevant institutions and submitted necessary documents to the AG. My hope is that this law is revised very soon,” he said.

He said that clauses have to be added to the law to increase awareness and prevent electoral fraud including activities such as vote buying.

The upgraded website of the Elections Commission launched today is faster and accessible via mobile devices, and offers all information related to elections.
