The largest coral planting event in the country have been delayed. An official from the event told Sun Media that the event has been delayed to tomorrow.
The official said that the event was delayed due to bad weather. The tents at on the beach at Vilimale’ was destroyed in last night’s rain.
The “One Nation Coral Revival” event organized by “Save the Beach Maldives” for the World Environment Day was initially scheduled for today.
The event is to plant corals that were taken from Hulhumale’ during expansion at Vilimale’ lagoon and some resorts.
Manager of Save the Beach Maldives, Hassan Ahmed said that corals would be planted as an underwater garden in an area of 100-200 meter.
The research done by Save the Beach Maldives shows that the information known about corals are relatively little and so awareness projects about corals and other relative topics to the Maldivian environment would be ongoing during the event.
And the marine biologists working in the resorts would be conducting awareness programs on environment protection, says the Manager Hassan Ahmed. He said that snorkeling and other activities would go on at the coral planting event.
