ID card services begin at Gaafaru

National Identity Cards are now available from K. Gaafaru as the service starts in the island today.

President of the Gaafaru Island Council, Adam Zahir told Sun Media today that expenses are high when they have to go Male’ to get their ID cards. He said that taking children and elderly people to Male’ to get their ID cards is not easy hence; started looking for an easier solution for the people of the island.

“We started it for the people of the island. So we did it with the people’s budget. And because of this, with God’s will it would be lighter on the people’s pocket.” Councilor Zahir said.

He said that the Island Council does not take an extra charge as profit for the council.

“If we are taking a fee it’s the same we that DNR (Department of National Registration) takes. We don’t take anything extra. This fee is something we have to pay DNR.” The Councilor said.

Councilor Zahir said that the ID card services at the Island Council are at every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
