National Meteorological Center has issued a White Alert due to the heavy rains in the country.
An official from the MET Office speaking to Sun Media said that the White Alert is out until 1:40 today. And the alert was issued today when the winds picked up with the rain and the seas got rough.
The official said that heavy rains with thunder is expected in the Northern and Central atolls in the next 24 hours while the Southern atolls would be affected much less.
“Looking at the seas, the seas at the central atolls would be rough on average.” The MET Office official said.
He said that in the next 24 hours, the winds are expected to pick up up to 18 miles an hour in the Central atolls while other areas would experience maximum winds of 15 miles an hour.
The three main alerts from the MET Office are White, Yellow and Red. White is for winds between 23 – 30 miles an hour. Yellow is for winds between 30 – 40 miles an hour while Red is for extreme weather.
