Man sentenced to four months in prison for obstruction

A man has been sentenced to four months in prison for obstructing Police duty.

The 28-year-old Ahmed Junaid was sentenced to four months after he refused to give a urine sample.

The verdict from the Criminal Court said that witness testimonies prove that Junaid refused to give a urine sample after he was brought in to Male’ Custodial around 8:45 p.m. on the night of 16 December 2011.

The verdict also said that this was the first time he was convicted of obstruction of Police duty.

After the new drug law came into effect, charges can be pressed against those who refuse to give urine samples. According to the law, a man convicted of such a crime would be sentenced to an year in prison.
