President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has said that the tourism sector has created more jobs than any other sector in the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the World Tourism (UNWTO) conference at Bandos Island Resort this morning, President Yamin said that tourism is a sector that must be developed in the Maldives and because of tourism; other sectors are developing as well.
The President said that while the tourism sector is developing and creating jobs, the other major business sectors such as fishing, farming, construction, travel and entertainment sectors are being developed alongside tourism.
Speaking further, President Yamin said that efforts are being put across the country to create jobs so that employees can work close to their families.
Supporting the President’s words, the government has been conducting a large guest house project in L. atoll.
The President said that he believes that with the “Visit Maldives Year 2016” campaign would increase the number of tourists visiting the country by record amounts. President Yamin noted that numerous projects would be run under the campaign.
