Criminal Court has ordered to keep the President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla who has been charged with terrorism in Police custody until the end of his trial.
Chief Judge Abdulla Didi said that Sheikh Imran was ordered to stay in Police custody after reviewing the Police Intelligence Report.
Requesting that Sheikh Imran remain in Police custody, Senior Public Prosecutor, Aishath Fazna Mohamed said that from the type of charge against Imran, he should remain in Police custody since he is a danger to public safety.
Responding to the state prosecutor, Sheikh Imran’s lawyer, Husnu Suood said that High Court overrule the Criminal Court’s ruling on two previous occasions when appealed, and changed to house arrest due to Sheikh Imran’s health condition.
Noting the defense lawyer’s words, Judge Abdulla Didi said that the High Court previously overruled to house arrest before the trial began and now he would be kept in Police custody for the trial.
Previously, Imran was arrested with a court order and had his remand extended twice before the case was appealed at the High Court. And after High Court changed Imran to house arrest, Criminal Court released Sheikh Imran as to so he cannot leave the country.
Imran was arrested last night under a court order to continue his trial while remaining in Police custody.
