Dedicated line established for complaints for high priced pickups

A dedicated phone line has been established by the Transport Authority to report cargo pickup trucks that are charging high despite the established prices.

The Chairman of the Transport Authority, Abdul-Rasheed Naafiz told Sun Media that they are receiving reports that some of the pickup truck drivers operating in Male’ City are charging higher amounts against the law and asked to report such cases to 794-3434 via a text message.

Chairman Naafiz said that when reports would be looked into when the pickup license plate number and other information has been texted to the number.

“Complaints like that are reported all the time; they are being reported because it happens.” Naafiz said.

During the hours of 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., pickup trucks that are below 1.5T should be charged MVR 40 per ride according to the law. And from 12 p.m. to 6 a.m., they should be charged MVR 50. And the hourly rate is MVR 140.

Under the same law, pickup trucks that are between 1.5T and 2T should charge MVR 70 for rides between the hours of 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. And MVR 80 between 12 p.m. and 6 a.m. The hourly rate is set as MVR 180.
