President Yamin: Speeding the trial is a constitutional duty of the president

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has said that if the courts are being slow at closing cases, resolving that issue in a constitutional duty of the president.

Speaking at a function at M. Dhiggaru yesterday, President Yamin said that if judicial process is being slow, resolving it by talking to the people is a duty of the president.

“And so to resolve the problem by talking to the people in the line of work to speed up the cases is something a president must do. Not something he can do. Something he must do.” President Yamin said.

The President said that even if it is the constitutional duty to speed up the judicial cases, the government would not criticize or interfere with the judiciary system.

Speaking at the campaign event of the PPM candidate for the Dhiggaru constituency, Faris Maumoon, President Yamin criticized the opposition MDP saying that what MDP is saying in their rallies are not important to the people of Dhiggaru constituency and what is important is what is being done for developments.

“What’s important for the fisherman of this constituency wants to know when the outer sea wall would be built. What’s important for the mothers, fathers and students is when would the important five to six classroom and the school hall would be built. It is not so important for them what the MDP is saying in their rally tomorrow.” President Yamin said.

While a lot of projects for the atolls were included in the budget and as the MPs supporting MDP did not vote to pass the budget, the President questioned what MDP can do for the people.

The President said that the opposition are protesting when they failed at the voting in the parliament and the people’s right cannot be gained while violating the rights of so many people.
