The Deputy Mayor of the Male’ City Council, Shifa Mohamed has said that the steps being taken against the councilors who took part in the opposition protested on 1 May are against the law.
Speaking at the MDP campaign hall tonight, Deputy Mayor Shifa said that LGA took steps against the councilors who took part in the May Day protest claiming that they took part in an illegal protest and those steps are against the law.
“LGA is taking illegal steps. On a public holiday, the Home Minister suspended them (councilors) saying they took part in their party’s activity.” Shifa said.
Deputy Mayor Shifa said that the new board at the LGA is empowering the government and that institute is run the same as the previous Atolls Ministry. LGA has suspended seven councilors who took part in the May Day protest for two months without pay.
