The government has provided 170 trash cans to Housing Development Corporations (HDC), for waste management in Hulhumalé.
The official handover of the trash cans took place at a ceremony in Hulhumalé today, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim. They were accepted by Managing Director of HRC Mohamed Simon.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thorig said that the 170 trash cans were a donation from the government of China.
Simon said that efforts are already under way to place the trash cans all over Hulhumalé.
He said that littering is more common in Hulhumalé by tourists than residents, and the new trash cans would solve this problem to a great extent.
