HRCM calls on opposition parties to make good use of invitation for dialogue

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has called on opposition parties to make good use of the government’s invitation to hold discussions.

In a statement issued today, the commission highlighted the ongoing political unrest and praised the government for extending the invitation.

All opposition parties have appointed representatives to participate in the discussions with the government.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) included former President Mohamed Nasheed on their list of representatives, but this request has been rejected by the government.

HRCM also called on everyone to refrain from activities that incite animosity in the society, and to prioritise peace.
