Onion, potato, egg prices increase

With Ramadan fast approaching, the prices of onion, potato, and egg have increased in Malé.

Onion, which previously cost between MVR 12 and MVR 15 per kilo, now costs between MVR 20 and MVR 25 per kilo.

Similarly, the price of potato has increased from MVR 12 per kilo to MVR 25 per kilo, and egg cartons which used to cost MVR 300, now cost MVR 400.

Stallholders at the local market said that the prices increased about three weeks ago, due to shortage.

Supply of food items to islands excluding Malé has also increased ahead of Ramadan.

State Trading Organisation (STO) has assured that supply and storage would be increased, to keep prices of onion, potato, and egg low during Ramadan.
